Case Studies

Established in 2012, JBSC have worked for a multiple of organisations from professional football clubs to third sector community sports organisations. Below are just some examples of the work undertaken. Full references are available.

‘Fulfilling growth and potential of a legendary boxing club into a wider sports foundation’

"I just want to say thank you Jamie for your input during the transition of Small Heath Boxing Club to Pat Benson Community Sports Foundation. This was a big move for us after many years as a Ltd company to now being a registered charity. Your expertise was a great addition to us as trustees. Regular updates and working with our resident CEO helped to make the journey easier. On behalf of the organisation I thank you again and wish all the best for the future." Chair, Pat O’Neill.

Founded over 50 yrs ago by legendary trainer Pat Benson, Small Heath Boxing Club has been a pillar of the Birmingham and boxing community. As well as producing amatuer champions and international boxers, the club has been a safe haven for thousands of young boxers giving them positive activity and the multiple of outcomes that not many other sports can acheive.

In more recent years, the clubs work to diversify by using the power of boxing to reach more participants has seen significant growth. This was the instigation of a 15 month partnership with JBSC to support the organisation on its ambitions to modernise and become fit for purpose to allow the new look Charity to fulfill its long term potential and future ambitions.

‘Taking a great Basketball Club

into a new era’

As one of the largest basketball club programmes in the country, City of Birmingham Rockets have long been admired for their ability to engage and develop young players from all quarters of the city.

It did not take long for JBSC to recognise the assets and the opportunities afforded to the club. Considering the wider opportunities for the sport in the city, alongside the willingness of a variety of stakeholders keen to come on board,  this provided a platform for the Club to pursue new ambitions.

"We were successful in accessing national lottery funding to build capacity within our Club which enabled us to engage JB Sports in the area of Business Development.  We were also aware of Jamie's track record in football and the successful Basketball programme he established via the Sporting Club model at WBA FC.

Jamie worked closely with us throughout his time with energy and knowledge using his experiences to help us implement new plans, construct a new look board and professionalise the structures of the club to help us progress us to the next level.

Now with revised Governance, a new business plan and operating model  for performance and participation in place, we have extended our arrangement with JB Sports beyond the initial one year agreement, to sustain and retain his input as the club pursues its ambitions on and off the court.

Working with a Governing Body on national programmes

As part of the Leagues and Clubs department in the grassroots football division, JBSC was recruited by The FA to work on a new innovative programme that supports clubs and leagues identified as some of the most progressive across the Country.

Through the experiences gained in the professional game, clubs assigned were in steps 3 & 4 of the National League system to support developments initially focusing off the pitch, that then supports the clubs so they can pursue their future ambitions in a viable and successful way.

“For us, it's great to be part of the FA’s Club Programme and to be able to have access to the expert advice and guidance that is available through Jamie and the programme."

"This is essential to us as a Board as we navigate these very different times and deliver a sustainable and successful club model. This supports our ambitions of giving Nantwich Town a Football Club the town is proud of and aligns with The FA to support the development of the future game"

Jon Gold - Chairman, John Dunning - Vice Chairman,

Nantwich Town FC.

The help from our consultant, Jamie Bunch, has been very welcome and constructive - and without the programme we would probably not be as well

prepared or briefed as we are. We want to position our Club as the "Community Club" of choice for the local area, and our long term business plan, and sustainability aspirations centre around this.

Jon Eeles, Leek Town FC Chairman.
